So, I did it.  I signed up for the Louisville Sports Commission Half Marathon which will be on November 10!! That means I REALLY need to start training hard.  This past Friday, I ran 5 miles in about 50 minutes, so I’m doing around 10 minutes per mile. I’d like to get it closer to 9 minutes per mile, but I’ll be ok with 10 minutes per mile on race day. Saturday was super busy with going to see Swan Lake (AMAZING by the way) at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, and then going to my great-aunt’s 75th birthday party.  Its always a blast hanging out with my family, but it was even better on a nice cool night by the Ohio River with a bonfire! Landon loved playing with his cousins, making s’mores (I actually resisted!) and watching everyone light and cast-off their paper lanterns over the river.  We had a great time!

Sunday morning we went on about a mile hike with my friend Rachel and her daughter Jordyn. We took the kids on the same accessible trail we went on last time, but this time the kids decided to take it further on the connected dirt trail that is much more difficult! We loved it and decided that next time we will just go ahead with one of the more difficult trails since our kids turned out to be such bad-asses :)!  Later in the day, after an awesome Naked Lady Party at a good friend’s house (that’s where a bunch of ladies gather up clothes they don’t want or don’t wear anymore and go hang out and swap clothes), and then dinner, I pushed Landon around the neighborhood in his stroller for about 30 minutes. I’m so glad he’ll still let me push him in his stroller so that I can get evening walks in!

Today I have classes and did some apartment searching, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to do a little run or a walk with Landon after my evening class.

I’ve been doing much better eating clean, and managed to make it out to Whole Foods to get some of my favorite gluten-free bread and bagels.  I also picked up some pre-made smoothies since I don’t have my blender here to make my own, as well as some Kombucha, which is supposed to help with digestion.  I’ve never tried it before, but have heard great things about it, so I’m anxious to try it!

What do you do to prepare for a half-marathon?  Got any tips for me?!?

Lastly, I’d like to send out my thoughts and prayers to everyone effected by the shooting in Washington D.C. today.
